Using a local help server

Locally installed QY CAD online help

Customers who do not have access to the public internet or do not want to use the UDS-hosted website can instead host web help on their own local workstation or server.

To use a local help server, we provide UDS PLM Documentation Server software that you can install on a workstation, so that it can host the HTML collection on a single computer. Alternatively, you can install the HTML collection on an existing web server to support more than one user.

On the same server, you can add localized (non-English) QY CAD help, as well as help for other UDS Digital Industries Software products you use.

Installing the UDS PLM Documentation Server

Installing QY CAD help on the local network requires these basic steps:

  1. Install the UDS PLM Documentation Server software on the designated host computer or HTML server.

This sets up a small, self-contained web server on your local system that can be used to serve documentation locally from your machine. This will run two services:

    • A UDS PLM Documentation Server, which serves the documentation.

    • A UDS PLM Solr Server which provides the Solr search indexing for the Documentation Server.

  2. Install the QY CAD help content onto this local web server in the selected language.

    • A separate installer is available for each language version of help.

    • If you use help in multiple languages, you can install all languages on the same UDS PLM Documentation Server.

  3. Within QY CAD, configure individual clients to access the local help server. On the Helpers tab (QY CAD Options dialog box), select the Access help from my server (requires you to set up a help server) check box, and then enter the URL of the local help server.
