Open command

The Open command displays the Open File dialog box to select and open existing documents or templates. The dialog box supports the same basic file operations as expected from Windows applications and has several features to filter the displayed view of documents or templates to limit the number of displayed selections. For more information, see Open a QY CAD document and Opening and saving QY CAD documents.

You can use Open File dialog box options to filter the document types displayed. You can choose to list all QY CAD document types (draft documents *.dft, assembly documents *.asm, part documents *.par, sheet metal documents *.psm, weldment documents *.pwd) and non-Solid Edge file types, many of which have their own import option dialog boxes. For more information, see Opening non–QY CAD documents. The following options document filtering options are also available:

All QY CAD documents (...)(*.par; *.asm; *.dft; *.pwd, *.psm)

Only displays QY CAD documents (draft documents *.dft, assembly documents *.asm, part documents *.par, sheet metal documents *.psm, weldment documents *.pwd). This is the default filter.

Assembly documents (*.asm)

Displays all QY CAD assembly documents *.asm.

Top Level Assembly documents (*.asm)

Only displays top level QY CAD assembly documents *.asm.

Note:

Selecting this option involves additional processing and can take more time to filter the assembly files to produce the desired list.

All documents (*.*)

Displays all the files at the selected location.

When opening a part file that contains links to an assembly, a dialog box is displayed that provides the option of opening the associated assembly document.

Opening Teamcenter-managed documents

When you work in a Teamcenter-managed environment, the Open command opens an existing document and downloads to cache any parts or subassemblies which may have been added to the subassembly. The Open command focuses on an item-centric view, displaying all the items in the database, including those with no data set. You can use the View controls to determine if you want to see a Basic, Intermediate, or Full display of the objects in the database. For a description of the views, see the View Detail portion of the Help topic, Open File dialog box (SEEC).

When you open an empty object (one that does not contain a data set) in QY CAD, you can create a QY CAD data set for the virtual structure by choosing a Solid Edge template and uploading the document into the database. This enables the top-down design approach in that the structure can be created from Teamcenter, with QY CAD defining the data set.

Note:

As a best practice, do not open an empty item as Read-Only.

You can use the Revision Filter to display All, Latest, Released, Latest Released, or Latest 3 revisions of documents. The Revision Filter also determines the revisions of a document shown in PathFinder. For more information, see the Help topic, Use the Revision Filter.

Opening documents with missing files

When you open a document with missing files, QY CAD displays the Repair Missing Files dialog box. To locate or replace the missing files, you can use the commands in the dialog box:

  • Search-in

  • Replace Part

  • Replace part with Standard Parts

  • Replace with New Part

Note:

The Search in command is only supported with non-managed documents.

For more information, see the Help topic, Repair Missing Files.
