Design for cost (workflow)

Use the options and commands in the Design for Cost docking window to estimate the cost to produce your sheet metal part. The following is an example of a costing workflow in QY CAD.

  1. Create a sheet metal part in QY CAD.

  2. Open the Design for Cost docking pane.

  3. Analyze the geometry of the sheet metal part and display the statistics in the docking pane.

  4. Enter costs per manufacturing operation.

You can enter the costs directly in the Manufacturing Estimate table, or by using variables. QY CAD calculates the total and provides an estimated cost to produce the part.

  5. Modify the geometry of the part and click Analyze to recalculate the estimated cost to produce the part.

  6. Print a report based on the information presented in the docking pane.

  7. Export the information to a CSV file.
