Selecting with SmartSelect

Using SmartSelect

In the Draft environment, you can select all elements on the sheet or layer that have similar attributes. This is useful when you want to make changes to similar elements throughout a drawing sheet.

To use SmartSelect:

  1. In a draft document, ensure the Select command is running and this command bar is displayed:

  2. Click the SmartSelect button .

  3. On the sheet, select an element like the one for which you want to create a selection set. For example, you can select 2D geometry,an annotation or dimension, a drawing view, or a block occurrence).

Text and other information in the drawing border may be located on a background sheet, not a working sheet. Use the View tab→Sheet Views group→Background command to make elements on the background sheets available for selection.

  4. In the SmartSelect Options dialog box, choose the selection filter criteria you want to apply and click OK.

All matching elements are selected and highlighted in the default highlight color.

Once you create a selection set, you can use the options on the edit command bar to make changes to the elements. For example, you can:

  • Change the text size of all the selected elements using the Text scale box.

  • Change the color of the elements or text by selecting the Properties button.

  • Locate all holes of the same size, and then change the radius of the holes.

  • Select all drawing views on the same layer.

Locating all holes of the same size

You can use SmartSelect to change the radius of all same-sized hole circles at once.

  1. Click SmartSelect , and then select one of the hole circles you want to locate.

  2. In the SmartSelect Options dialog box, select the Element type and Circles of same radius options.

All other hole circles that match the selected circle are highlighted.

  3. On the Edit Definition command bar, change the value in the Diameter box or the Radius box.

Note:

If a previously applied relationship prevents you from changing any of the selected elements, a message box notifies you of the conflict. If appropriate, you can delete the relationship and retry.

Finding all instances of the same block view

Blocks are named 2D objects that contain predefined geometry and text. In QY CAD, you can import them from AutoCAD or create your own. You can add them to your drawing sheet or the 2D Model sheet by dragging them from the Block Library.

You can use SmartSelect to replace all selected block views of the same name at once.

  1. Click SmartSelect , and then select a block view.

  2. In the SmartSelect Options dialog box, select Element type and Occurrences of selected block.

All instances of the block with the same name are selected and highlighted.

  3. You now can delete all instances of the selected block view, or you can replace them using the Replace Block command on the shortcut menu.

Selecting drawing views by layer

You can use SmartSelect to select all other drawing views on the same layer.

  1. Click SmartSelect , and then select a drawing view.

  2. In the SmartSelect Options dialog box, select Element type and Layer.

All drawing views on the same layer are selected and highlighted.

  3. You now can use the options on the drawing view edit command bar to change the view scale, show drawing view captions, apply model colors and shading, or change some global properties in the Properties dialog box.
