Floating graphic windows for multiple monitors

Using QY CAD floating windows

You can detach a QY CAD graphics window or draft document from the main application frame. When detached, you can position the window where you want it on the same monitor, or you can move a window to a different monitor.

This feature is convenient when you want to work with your model in multiple Solid Edge windows set to different model views, for example, top, right, left, and isometric.

The floating (detached) windows are more compact, and you can size them and position them individually.

  • The command ribbon is available only in the main application window.

  • Shortcut commands are available in the active floating window.

  • Use the Quick View Cube, mouse wheel, and control keys to pan, zoom, and fit the contents in the active floating window.

  • PathFinder appears in whichever model window is active. To use PathFinder in a different window, click inside the window where you want it to appear.

Note:

Although PathFinder follows the active floating graphics window, other docking panes in the docked tab set do not. If you want to interact with a floating assembly graphics window, for example to drag parts from the Parts Library pane into the assembly, unpin the docking pane tab set from the application frame, click the Parts Library tab to activate it, and then drag a part into the floating assembly window.

Creating floating windows

The following commands are available on the context menu of a QY CAD document tab in all environments. Some are also available on the ribbon in the View tab→Windows group.

  • New Floating Window—Creates a new floating window containing a copy of the active document. You can drag this window to a secondary monitor, and adjust its position and size.

  • Float Window—Detaches the QY CAD graphic window from the main application frame and floats it. You can drag this window to a secondary monitor, and adjust its position and size.

  • Dock to Main—Closes the active floating window and displays it as a tabbed document within the main QY CAD application frame.

  • Dock All to Main—Closes all floating windows and displays them as tabbed documents within the main QY CAD application frame.
