Create a template
-
On the Application menu, click New tab→New command.
-
In the New dialog box, from the Standard templates list, select a drawing standard you want to use for the document type you want to base your template on. In the middle pane select the base document template you want to use as the starting point for customizing a document template for your requirements. For example, to create a customized draft document template based on the ANSI Inch standard, highlight the ANSI Inch option under the Standard Templates list and pick ansi inch draft.dft.
-
Click OK to open the template.
-
Configure your templates in the way you want to preserve your document content and operation standards. This includes items such as the background content of your drafting sheets such as title block and revision block content or other drawing standardized information.
Refer to the example below for making changes to a draft document template.
-
On the Application menu, click Save As tab→Save As command.
-
In the Save In box, specify a folder where you want to save the new template. Remember this location and folder name because you will add this folder to User templates file types location in the File Locations section of the QY CAD Options dialog to quickly access this template in the future.
-
In the File name box, type a unique name for the new template.
-
In the Save As Type box, enter the format you want to save the template to.
The default is the format of the current document type.
-
Set Up Background Sheets
Select the View tab→Background Sheets command to access the title block and border data. This displays all of the background sheets that have been defined in the existing template as tabs at the bottom of the window.
The background sheet is used for graphics that you want to display on more than one drawing, such as a border, title block, logo, or raster background picture (watermark). A background sheet can be displayed and printed along with any working sheet it is attached to.
For background sheets, you can insert logo and border images using the Insert Image command. You can add a title block by dragging and dropping a .dft, .dwg, or .dxf file onto the background sheet or placing it using the Place Block command.
-
Activate the 2D Model Sheet
Select the View tab→2D Model Sheet command. This displays the sheet labeled “2D Model” as a single tab at the bottom of the window. There is only one 2D Model sheet per document.
You can draw, design, annotate, and dimension on the 2D Model sheet. The 2D Model sheet is a special sheet used exclusively for working in 2D model space. It enables you to draw on the sheet and to annotate at a scale appropriate for the overall size of the part you are designing, yet it prints your drawing with annotations appropriately scaled to the output sheet size you specify.
Tip:To add a scaled title block and border to a 2D Model sheet, use the Drawing Area Setup command. If you do not need to scale the drawing border, then you can drag it onto the 2D Model sheet.
-
Set Up Working Sheets
Select the View tab→Working Sheets command to display the default working sheet, Sheet1, as a tab at the bottom of the screen. The working sheet is where drawing views of 3D models are created and placed. It is also where you place 2D model views of geometry located on the 2D Model sheet.
For working sheets, you can select a sheet size, specify paper units, and assign a background sheet to be printed with it by right-clicking the sheet tab and then selecting the Sheet Setup command on the shortcut menu.
-
When you finish creating or modifying background sheets, select the View tab→Background Sheets command again to turn their display to off. This prevents someone from accidentally modifying the background sheets in the template.
A template captures a default set of saved content to serve as a standard for all subsequent documents of the same type. You can use a template to set standards for a group of users or to define your own preferences. You can create new templates from existing templates. Use the following procedure to create a new draft template based on the standard ansi inch draft.dft template.
In a draft document, you can add, delete, rename, and reorder working sheets and background sheets by right-clicking the sheet tab and then selecting the appropriate command on the shortcut menu. For example, you can add new sheets using the Insert Sheet command. If your active sheet is a working sheet when you select the command, then it inserts a new working sheet. If your active sheet is a background sheet, then this command inserts a new background sheet.
You also can display or hide different types of drawing sheets using commands on the View tab.
