Create edge-to-face connections

  1. Choose the Simulation tab→Connectors group→Edge command .

The Assembly Connector command bar is displayed.

  2. From the Connector Type list, select Glue.

  3. In the Search Distance box, type a value for the maximum distance to search to determine if two selected elements should be connected.

  4. (From connection) Select an edge, and then right-click or press Enter.

  5. (To connection) Select a face or surface that you want to connect to, and then right-click or press Enter.

    • A glued connection is created between the selected element pairs if they exist within the maximum search distance.

    • Connectors are displayed on both sides of the connection. Every node on the edge is connected to the nearest node on the face or surface.

Tip:
  • Selection options
    • You can use the Select tool, QuickPick, fence select, or the Selection Manager to select model geometry.

    • On the Assembly Connector command bar, you can use the Toggle Source/Target Selection button to change which side of the connection you select first.

  • Change the penalty value

You can change the penalty value by clicking the Options button on the command bar, and then entering a new value in the Glue Connector Options dialog box.

The penalty value specifies the penalty factor for all connection pairs. The penalty factor is the stiffness factor used to transmit the displacement between the element pairs in a connection. The default penalty value for glue connectors is 100. A higher number reduces penetration and speeds convergence.
