Create PMI dimensions from the assembly level


PMI dimensions can be placed into a part or sheet metal file from the assembly level using the Create in Model button . This button is available on the command bar for any PMI dimension command.

Note:

The assembly, part, or sheet metal model must be activated in an assembly. Only dimensions placed on synchronous geometry can be driven dimensions.

  1. Set the Select command to Face Priority.

  2. Choose the PMI tab→Dimension group→Smart Dimension command.

  3. On the command bar, select the Create in Model button .

  4. Select an element (for example, an edge or face) to place the dimension.

    The PMI dimension is placed on the component.

Tip:

After you place the PMI dimension, the Create in Model mode is turned off. You have to select the button each time you place a PMI dimension on a component from the assembly level.
