Document properties
A document's properties are an important part of managing documents. Using document properties, you can store document information with the document itself. This makes it easy to find documents and information about them. Using the File Properties command available in QY CAD from Application menu→Properties, you can view, edit, and store properties for a document.
Some properties are updated automatically. They include the title, author, and document statistics such as size, date of creation, and date of modification. Other properties can be defined as custom properties to store information regarding your documents.
Custom properties
You can define custom properties to store information regarding your documents. The custom property information is stored within the document and viewable on the Custom tab of the Properties dialog box in QY CAD. For example, TC_ImportTime and PDMFilename are custom properties used during the import of unmanaged documents into the Teamcenter-managed environment.
You can create custom properties to define the Item Revision for non-QY CAD documents including image files, .pdf documents, and Microsoft Office documents (MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint). Another common use of custom properties is to define the properties for non-graphic parts.
There are three basic steps to creating custom properties:
-
Provide a name for the custom property.
-
Select the type of property you are creating.
-
Type a value for the property.
For more information regarding custom properties, refer to the QY CAD Help topic Creating custom document properties.
Attribute mapping
Attribute mapping defines what document properties exchange between unmanaged Solid Edge documents and Teamcenter. There are a number of property mapping definitions that are delivered for you.
QY CAD | Teamcenter | Required or Optional | File Property | Maximum character length |
Teamcenter Item Type | Item Type | Required | Custom (Localized) | 32 |
Document Number | Item ID | Required | Project | 128 |
Revision Number | Revision | Required | Project | 128 |
Project Name | Item Name | Required | Project | 128 |
Dataset Name | Dataset Name | Required | Custom (English) | 128 |
TC Engineering Description | Dataset Description | Optional | Custom (Localized) | 140 |
In Teamcenter, the key properties used to track part numbers and revisions are Item ID, Revision, and Item Name. The corresponding QY CAD properties are displayed in QY CAD on the Project tab of the Properties dialog box. Defining these properties in QY CAD before adding the documents to Teamcenter minimizes your future efforts and your Teamcenter database will be more accurately populated from the start.
Some things to consider regarding QY CAD property mapping:
-
If the QY CAD Document Number property is left blank, an Item ID is automatically generated and assigned for you when you import the data into Teamcenter. You should define the Document Number, Revision Number, and Project Name before loading your data into Teamcenter.
-
If any of the QY CAD properties contain more than the maximum character length, or if the Document Number plus the Revision is greater than the maximum character length, you are notified of an error on import into Teamcenter.
-
QY CAD and Teamcenter properties should match Type (For example: String with String, Date with Date and Numeric with Numeric).
-
When QY CAD transacts data with Teamcenter, it uses a name that is unaffected by localization. This is referred to as the real name. The real name has also been used for the display in the user interface. Beginning with Teamcenter 8.3, a unique prefix is added to all new business objects to guarantee uniqueness. The resulting name is often not desirable for display in the user interface. The use of a display name addresses this issue. The display name is used for column headers in common property dialog boxes for mapped properties other than the mandatory properties.
Additional information regarding display names can be found in the QY CAD Embedded Client User’s and Administrator’s guide.
-
Mapping the Project ID is not supported.
-
The Item Type and Dataset Description are localized, while the Dataset Name is English-only.
The QY CAD to Teamcenter attribute mapping is case sensitive.
