Migrating SolidWorks material definitions to QY CAD
When you migrate any SolidWorks part file the material definition is extracted. This material is assigned to the QY CAD document if the material name exists in the QY CAD Material.mtl file. To ensure that the SolidWorks material name exists in the QY CAD Material file, QY CAD provides a tool to convert the SolidWorks.sldmat file to the QY CAD Material.mtl file.
The conversion of the SolidWorks Material data base is optional. However, failure to convert the table or an improper setup of either the SolidWorks or QY CAD material table location results in no material applied to the QY CAD part files.
The SWmat2SEMat.exe utility is delivered as part of the Server side application to the QY CAD program folder. The executable creates a new QY CAD Material.mtl file rather than appending an existing .mtl file. The executable organizes material definitions by placing all similar materials such as steel and iron into a single category.
Before running the utility, there are a few things to consider:
-
You should make a copy of the QY CAD Material.mtl file before running the utility.
-
If the SolidWorks data migration application is on a different machine than the Solid Edge application you must make a copy of the SolidWorks.sldmat and place it on the QY CAD machine.
-
After successfully converting the material table ensure that the QY CAD\Options\File location pointer is pointing to the appropriate file.
-
Before starting a migration ensure that SolidWorks is pointing to the same material database folder that was previously converted.
