SolidWorks data migration
The SolidWorks Data Migration command translates SolidWorks part, assembly, and drawing files to QY CAD.
The command requires that SolidWorks version 2012 or later and QY CAD are installed on the same machine.
The imported data is placed as either synchronous or ordered, depending on the settings on the Helpers page of the QY CAD Options dialog box.
You can use the Export Drafts as PDF or DXF parameter in the SolidWorks2SE.ini file to specify how SolidWorks drawing documents (.slddrw) are migrated to Solid Edge. The values for this parameter are:
-
PDF – Exports the SolidWorks draft file to .pdf format.
-
DXF – Exports the .dxf file from SolidWorks and imports the .dxf file into QY CAD Draft.
-
Both – Exports both a .dxf and .pdf file.
You must set these options prior to migration.
Hole feature recognition
You can use the Create Hole Features on Migration parameter in the SolidWorks2SE.ini file to control how QY CAD hole features are created during migration.
The default value for the parameter is 1. When the parameter is set to 1 hole features, including thread attributes, are created during the migration. Hole features are only applied to synchronous bodies. No hole feature is created when the migration is targeted for the ordered environment.
Threaded shaft features are not supported.
When the parameter is set to 0 no hole or thread attributes are captured or applied during migration.
Migrating SolidWorks virtual components
SolidWorks virtual components are parts or assembly bodies that are embedded within the SolidWorks assembly. By default, SolidWorks virtual components are created when a part or assembly is created within the context of an existing assembly. Common examples of virtual components are SolidWorks assemblies that contain pipes or frames.
Migrating SolidWorks drawing views
When you update the migrated QY CAD part and assembly files, drawing views update the QY CAD draft file. During the migration process a link is established between the resulting QY CAD parts and assembly files and the migrated QY CAD drawing file. The QY CAD drawing views are created based on the SolidWorks drawing view location, type, and scale.
The Create Drawing Views on Migration parameter in the SolidWorks2SE.ini file controls the creation of drawing views during migration. By default, the value is 1, which creates drawing views during migration. Setting the value to 0 specifies that the option Export Drafts as PDF or DXF is used rather than creating associative drawing views.
The following applies when migrating SolidWork files:
-
All drawing view types created in SolidWorks are supported.
-
Cutting plane lines, auxiliary view plane lines, and detail envelopes are supported.
-
Dimensions migrated from SolidWorks are bound to QY CAD drawing view geometry.
-
Center marks and center lines are associative to the QY CAD drawing views.
-
Hatch and solid fills are migrated maintaining their associativity to the QY CAD drawing view.
-
View shading is maintained as part of this drawing view creation process.
-
Multi-sheet drawings are supported through this migration process.
Annotations, such as balloons and callouts, do not migrate as QY CAD annotations, but migrate as blocks.
