Using the Ground command

The following procedure describes how to use the Ground command (Home tab→Assemble group→Ground) to apply a ground relationship to a part in an assembly.

Unlike the other assembly relationships, you have only one way to create a Ground relationship between two parts. This relationship can only be made using the Ground command. There is no option of selecting a Ground relationship from the Assemble command bar.

  1. Select the Ground command (Home tab→Assemble group→Ground) .

The system highlights the command in the ribbon .

  2. Select the part to be grounded.

This action grounds the selected part at its current location. The Ground command remains open as indicated by the highlighted command in the ribbon.

  3. Continue to select any additional parts to apply a Ground relationship or press Esc to close the command.

    Tips
    • The first part placed in an assembly is grounded automatically. To reposition the first part, first delete the ground relationship then move the part. Assembly relationships can then be applied between the first part and the assembly reference planes or subsequent parts place in the assembly.

    • All parts that are placed in an assembly are grounded if the Maintain Relationships option on the Parts Library shortcut menu is not activated (for more information, see Maintain Relationships command (Parts Library Tab)). This option is activated by default.
