Using exposed variables in property text
Variables that are exposed in the Variable Table are available directly as properties in parts lists, tables, and annotations, bypassing custom properties on the Custom tab in the File Properties dialog box.
This means you can:
-
Reference the real value of an exposed variable in draft, sketch, and PMI.
-
Format the extracted value using the Format Values dialog box. For example, you can specify precision, no units, dual units, and tolerance.
-
Choose the source of the property that you want to use.
Properties that are listed with the same name also indicate their source on the Columns tab in the Parts List Properties dialog box and in the Select Property Text dialog box.
Example:Accuracy (Custom Property)
Accuracy (Exposed Variable)
-
You can extract an exposed variable in the Variable Table using the property text code modifier, /EV (exposed variable). For more information, see Format codes to modify reference and property text strings.
You also can reference exposed variables in the Custom tab in the File Properties dialog box. However, the custom properties that are listed there yield a text value rather than a real number value.
