search distance
In assembly connections, the search distance is used to determine if two element pairs on a contact region are less than or equal to the distance from the normal projected from the target element to the source element.
-
If true, a connection is created between the element pairs, and the two elements stick to each other.
-
If false, the two elements are not in contact, and the solution for displacement for the nodes is solved independently.
For a no penetration (linear contact) connector, you can define two search distance values. Maximum search distance is defined in the dynamic input box in the graphics window. You also can specify a Minimum search distance in the Connector Properties dialog box.
For a glue connector, only a Maximum search distance value can be specified.
