Open a document


  1. Choose File→Open.

    Tip:

    You can open one of the last documents you worked on by selecting it from the Recent Documents list at the bottom of the File menu.

  2. In the Open a File dialog box, from the Look In list, select the folder containing the document you want to open.

  3. In the Open a File dialog box, choose one of the following:

    • Select Preview to display an image of the document contents in the Preview pane.

    • Select Properties to display information about the file, such as author, template used, date created, and date modified.

  4. (Optional) To narrow the list of files to those of a certain type, set the Files of Type option. For example, you can select Assembly Document (.asm) to only display the files with the filename extension associated with assemblies (.asm).

  5. Set the Revision to display the version of the document you choose.

    The Revision you select is the default shown in the application window.

  6. (Optional) Set the Variant of your choice.

  7. Type the name of the document or select it from the list of documents. Alternatively, you can double-click the document name to open it without setting additional open options.

    Tip:
    • If you do not see the document you want to open, make sure the folder and document type are correct.

    • If you do not know the location of the document, on the Open a File dialog box, click the Search button and define search criteria to locate the document. To learn how to do this, see Find a File. To learn about search capabilities, see Searching for documents.

  8. To open the document, click Open.
