Activity: Work with a read-only document
After completing this activity, you will be able to:

Open a document read-only.

Recognize the Read-Only Status Indicator.

Access and use the Read-Only Assistant when working with a read-only document.

Use the Revise command to save changes made to an item opened read-only.
Instructions for loading the activity files are found in Activity data set and configuration requirements. The activities assume ISO templates are loaded.
Launch the Activity: Work with a read-only document.
Open the assembly created in the previous lesson using the Read Only option.

Verify QY CAD is still running with Teamcenter enabled.

Click Open
.
The Open File dialog box is displayed. The Browse location is set to the location where it was last used.

Set the Browse location to Recently Used Items.

In the Filter Options pane, set the Files of Type to Assembly documents (*.asm) to restrict the items shown to assemblies.

In the Open Options pane, clear the Version from Cache check box, and set the Revision Rule to Latest Working.

Select the assembly with the description Completed Assembly you created in the previous lesson.

From the command ribbon, click Read Only and set the All Levels option.

Click Open.
Expand the view so you can see the components of the assembly.

In PathFinder, right-click the item Modified Handle Assembly and click Expand All to view the components of the assembly.
Apply a new Face Style to the Handle Cap.

In PathFinder, select the Item that is the Handle Cap of the assembly, and in the View tab set the Face Overrides option to Brass.

Save your change.
The Save command is disabled because you opened the top level assembly with all levels set to read-only.
Examine your workspace.

Notice the window title bar indicates the item is opened [Read-Only], and the Read-Only Status Indicator
is displayed in the upper right corner of the graphics window.
Access the Read-Only Assistant.

Click the Read-Only Status Indicator.
The Read-Only Assistant displays details about the open item.
You have a few options if you want to save your change to the assembly. You can:

Choose the Save As command to save the document to a new Item ID.

Choose to create a new revision using the Revise command.

Obtain write access to the document by clicking Request Check Out.

Create a new revision of the document.
-
In the Read-Only Assistant, click Revise.
The Revise Document dialog box is displayed with the new revision automatically assigned for you.

Click Perform Actions.
The Read Only Assistant no longer displays in the workspace and [Read Only] no longer displays in the title of the subassembly. You are now working in revision B of the document.
Save and close the assembly.

Choose Teamcenter tab→Close→Close All and save your changes.

In the Upload dialog box, set the action to Upload. Then click Perform Actions.
By setting the action to Upload, it remains checked out to you, but the changes you made are stored in Teamcenter.

Click the Close button in the upper-right corner of this activity window.
