Migrating Inventor material definitions to QY CAD

When you migrate any Inventor part file, the material definition is extracted. This material is assigned to the QY CAD document if the material name exists in the QY CAD .mtl file. To ensure that the Inventor material name exists in the Solid Edge Material file, QY CAD provides a tool to convert the Inventor material file(*.adsklib) to the QY CAD Material file (.mtl) file.

Note:

Converting the Inventor Material data base is optional. However, if you do not convert the material database files or set up of either the Inventor or QY CAD material files location improperly, no material is mapped to QY CAD.

The INVmat2SEMat.exe utility is delivered as part of the QY CAD program folder. The executable creates a new QY CAD Material (.mtl) file rather than appending materials in existing Material.mtl file. The category of the material is maintained from Inventor database to QY CAD material database

Before running the utility, you should consider:

To migrate the material database:

Note:

The material file which user is going to migrate, must be added in Material Library list in active Project file.

You can find the path of the Inventor material library by hovering over that library name in the Material Browser dialog box or in the Projects dialog box. Only those material files can be migrated that can be by Inventor.

  1. Open a DOS window.

  2. Enter the path for the INVmat2SEMat.exe . For example, “C:\Program Files\UDS\QY CAD 2020\Program\INVmat2SEMat.exe .”

  3. Set the following:

    • Path 1— Location and name of the Inventor materials file in double quotes.

      For example, C:\>”C:\Program Files\QY CAD 2020\Program\INVmat2SEMat.exe” "C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2018\Design Data\Materials\ InventorMaterialLibrary.adsklib".

This creates the Inventor materials file(.mtl) and place it in C:\Program Files\UDS\QY CAD 2020\Preferences\Materials folder.
