Inventor data migration


The Inventor Data Migration tool translates Inventor part, assembly, and drawing files to QY CAD.

To use the migration tool, Inventor and QY CAD must be installed on the same computer. QY CAD supports migration from Inventor version 2018 & above.

Migrating drawing views

After migration, Inventor drawing files maintain associativity with the migrated Solid Edge model. For example, changes made to the model get updated in the drawing views for the model. During the migration process a link is established between the resulting QY CAD part and assembly files and the migrated QY CAD drawing file.

Note:

The Create Drawing Views on Migration = 1 parameter in the Inventor2SE.ini file controls the creation of drawing views during migration. By default, the value is 1, which creates drawing views directly from the Inventor draft file during migration. Setting the value to 0 specifies that the existing DXF migration path is used rather than creating associative drawing views.

The following applies when migrating Inventor files:

  • All Inventor drawing views other than – Overlay, Breakout, slice and crop are exported as associative views and appear as in Inventor.

    • For Overlay, other positions than main position are translated as dxf geometry. Main view is associative.

    • Breakout View – Any view containing Breakout view would be migrated as dxf geometry. Children views of the view in which breakout is taken, are hidden.

    • Slice and Crop – These views are migrated as parent view of Slice/Crop View in Inventor. Slice/Crop action is eliminated from the view. Associativity is maintained between view and model

  • Cutting plane lines, auxiliary view plane lines, and detail envelopes are supported.

  • Migrated Linear, Radial, Diametric, Baseline and chain dimensions are associative. Other dimensions after migration are dxf geometry.

  • Center marks and center lines are associative to the QY CAD drawing views.

  • View shading is maintained as part of this drawing view creation process.

  • Annotations, such as balloons and callouts, do not migrate as QY CAD annotations, but migrate as blocks.

Migrating properties

Inventor files contain a set of properties that closely resemble QY CAD file properties. During migration, these Inventor properties are mapped to QY CAD file properties.

Migrating material database

QY CAD provides a tool, $:Program Files\UDS\QY CAD 2022\Program\INVmat2SEMat.exe to convert the Inventor material database to the QY CAD Material.mtl database. You run the command from a command line in a DOS window on a machine that contains both QY CAD and Inventor.
