driving dimension
A dimension whose value controls the size, orientation, or location of an element.
A driving dimension prevents the dimension value from being changed when a connected face is moved or sized. Also, a dimension must be driving if you want to use it in the Variable Table.
It is easy to identify a driving dimension:
-
In the modeling environment, the default display color of a driving dimension is red. In draft, the default display color is black/white. You can modify the default display color of driving dimensions.
-
In PathFinder, a driving dimension has a lock icon in front of its name.
-
On dimension editing command bars, the lock icon is displayed
.
