Subtract a volume from a body


    In a multi-body file

  1. Open a multi-body file.

  2. Choose Home tab→Solids group→Add Body list→Subtract.

  3. Select a target body or multiple bodies to subtract from.

  4. On the command bar, click the Accept button (or right-click).

  5. Select a tool body or multiple tool bodies as the body to subtract from the target. You can select a design body, a construction body, a surface, or a reference plane as the subtracting tool.

    Note:

    If you use a surface or a plane as the subtract tool, you use the direction handle to choose which side to subtract from.

  6. On the command bar, click the Accept button.

  7. On the command bar, click the Finish button.

  8. Click Cancel or press the Esc key to end the Subtract command.

    In a single body file

  1. Open a single body file.

  2. Choose Home tab→Solids group→Add Body list→Subtract.

  3. Select a target body.

  4. On the command bar, click the Accept button (or right-click).

  5. Select a tool body as the body to subtract from the target. Select a construction body, a surface body, or a reference plane as the subtracting tool.

    Note:

    If you use a surface or a plane as the subtract tool, use the direction handle to choose which side to subtract from.

  6. On the command bar, click the Accept button.

  7. On the command bar, click the Finish button.

  8. Click Cancel or press the Esc key to end the Subtract command.

    In an assembly

  1. Open an assembly which has intersecting component volumes.

  2. Choose Features tab→Assembly Features group→Subtract.

  3. Select the option as to whether create synchronous subtractions if possible, and the option as to whether to maintain inter-part links for ordered subtractions.

  4. Select a target body or multiple bodies to subtract from.

  5. On the command bar, click the Accept button (or right-click).

  6. Select a tool body or multiple tool bodies as the body to subtract from the target. You can select a design body, a construction body, a surface, or a reference plane within other assembly components as the subtracting tool.

    Note:

    If you use a surface or a plane as the subtract tool, you use the direction handle to choose which side to subtract from.

  7. On the command bar, click the Accept button.

  8. On the command bar, click the Finish button.

  9. Click Cancel or press the Esc key to end the Subtract command.
