Etching fonts, colors, and line styles
For text engraving purposes, a single profile or stick font is more appealing than a TrueType font. QY CAD delivers both TrueType and Stick fonts. TrueType are outline fonts in which each character contains a volume. Machining to a volume is problematic as the cutter or laser may not fit within the given thickness. Any custom fonts you want to use for QY CAD features, such as an etch font or cutout font, must be continuous with no internal loops or the font will be rejected by sketch selection. Typical Machine TrueType fonts (stick fonts) exhibit this behavior.
You can use the Etch Feature Line Type and Etch Color options in the Save as Flat DXF Options dialog box to save the etch line color and line style when you export the sheet metal file to dxf format.
In addition to color and line type, you can define the line width for the etching. However, DXF does not support the concept of line width so there is no corresponding width option in the Save as Flat DXF Options dialog box.
There are parameters in the sesmf.ini file to define the line style and color mapping when exporting an etch as sketch geometry. The 100=UseEtchFeatureLineType parameter defines the line type and the 8=Use Etch Feature Color parameter parameter defines the line color.
You can add these values to the sesmf.ini file for QY CAD files created prior to 2022 to include this new functionality.
